Difficult Issues
Difficult Issues is a lecture series that Crossway holds every year during mid-summer. The main purpose of the Difficult Issues Series is to equip Christians to interact and communicate with others (both Christians and Non-Christians) about challenging topics and questions having to do with the Christian faith. Anyone is welcome to attend. This summer our Difficult Issues Series schedule will be as follows:- July 13th – Homosexuality: Engaging our Culture’s Views
This lecture will attempt to address three main questions about the issue of homosexuality. (1) What does the Bible teach? (2) What is the predominant view in our culture? (3) As Christians, how are we to respond?
- July 20th – Regarding Miracles
The Bible contains many accounts of events and happenings that fall outside our “normal” experience of the world. How are we to understand these events and happenings? More than that, how can we believe what the Bible has to say about Jesus Christ when it also contains these “unbelievable” events? Why did Jesus Himself do so many miracles? These are some of the questions that this lecture will seek to answer.
- July 27th – Roman Catholicism: Where does ultimate authority reside?
The question of authority lies at the heart of so many of the differences and disagreements between Protestants and Roman Catholics. This talk will explain the different approaches Protestants and Roman Catholics take to the issue of authority and how that has shaped each sides approach to doctrine and practice.
- August 3rd – Haven't Christians Done More Bad than Good?: Addressing Christianity's Supposed Black Marks
Many Non-Christians commonly object to Christianity by claiming it has been responsible for much injustice in history. How should Christians answer people who bring up the Crusades? What about Christians who used to own slaves? What about those who say Christianity oppresses women? This talk will give answers to these questions, show how Christ's followers have been a force for good in the world, and, most importantly, point to Jesus Christ, the only perfect man who has ever lived.
Each Difficult Issues lecture is held on a Wednesday evening in the lobby of Crossway Community Church and begins at 7:00 p.m. The lecture is approximately an hour long and is followed by a half hour of Q and A. It is a good idea to bring your Bible and something with which to take notes. If you have any questions about the Difficult Issues Series please feel free to contact Steve Handler at the church office or via email ( This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
