What Passages Will We Memorize?While we recognize all Scripture is inspired by God, the pastors of CrossWay have prayerfully selected 100 passages of Scripture that will have a strategic spiritual impact in the life of a believer. We divided these up into a 4-year cycle of verses - 25 passages each year - that we will memorize as a church. Why? Because we want to store up God's truth in our hearts. We don't just want to memorize verses and forget them. We want to accumulate a growing number of Scriptures that God can take and use in our lives. 100 passages may seem like an unattainable goal. But you can do it; one passage every 2 weeks, 25 passages a year, over a 4-year period of time.
Each passage is focused on the gospel of Jesus Christ. These verses help us both to live in the goodness of the gospel ourselves, and share it effectively with others.
Each passage will help us grow in holiness by calling us to seek Christ first, to serve others, to cultivate the fruit of the Spirit, to be joyful in trials, to abide in Christ, and more. Of course, we cannot do these things on our own. But as we take steps of faith, the Holy Spirit empowers us for obedience and grows us in Christ-like character.
Each passage in year 3 is a different promise of God. God calls us to trust in his faithfulness. As believers, we know we cannot live the Christian life on our own. Daily we need the strength, wisdom, mercy, forgiveness, and peace that only God can provide. God has given us great and precious promises for our good and for our growth in godliness. He calls us to trust in his faithfulness, day by day, as we learn to rely on his promises.
Passages in year 4 describe different attributes of God's character. Knowing these truths - God is attentive, God is merciful, God is sovereign - will help us respond to any situation we may face with increased faith and confidence in God. |
